Yomdel supports a number of charities each year, and the latest adventure was an amazing coming together of estate agents and their suppliers to raise money for the Huntingdon's Disease Association as part of "Do It For Dom" (DIFD) canoeing down the River Wye.
Our friend, Dominic Subbiani of FBM Estate Agents and Fine & Country in Pembrokeshire, was diagnosed with Huntingdon's a couple of years ago. This is a terrible disease that affects the body's nervous system. It causes changes with movement, learning, thinking and emotions. Once symptoms begin, the disease gradually progresses, so living with it means having to adapt to change, taking one day at a time.
The response from Dom's friends and colleagues across the UK property sector has been nothing short of incredible. Led by Acaboom's Suzanna Mavity and Mr Kerfuffle himself, Simon Whale, last year around 50 people climbed Mt Snowdon, while this year 103 people canoed 31 miles down the River Wye in Herefordshire and Monmouthshire.
To date, in 2019 we have raised more than £70,000 for the association, and importantly Dom himself has now been invited to participate in new clinical trials seeking a cure for the disease, a great result.
Yomdel Founder Andy Soloman took part in this years challenge, sharing a canoe with Joe Parry of Fine & Country in Chepstow on the first day, and Iain McKenzie, MD of The Guild of Property Professionals on the second day. There was stunning scenery, abundant wildlife, occasional rapids, and the odd pub to negotiate. An overnighter mini festival saw the group sleeping in Tipis or tents next to the river, a wonderful BBQ provided by Rightmove and a charity auction. The auction highlight was, of course, the £2,000 paid for the pleasure of shaving off Simon Whale's hair.
